SKILL + CHANCE

Skill based gambling games: arenas, snakes and cash-outs

Skill based gambling games are real-money contests where play, not a random number, decides most of the result, and the operator takes a fee instead of banking bets. The arena version drops many players into one live round, such as a slither-style snake arena, where you cash out what you carry or lose it when you die. Of the arena operators in our research, only one holds a gambling licence, so the rules and the fee matter more than usual.

How an arena round works

01

Fund in crypto

The snake arenas in our research take SOL only. You send it to a deposit address the site controls, and your balance shows in dollars at the live price.

02

Buy into an arena

Pick a stake tier, such as the $1, $10 or $100 arenas on MoneySlither, and you spawn carrying that amount.

03

Take value from other players

Eliminating a rival lets you collect the money they carried. Dying loses everything you hold, stake included.

04

Cash out

On MoneySlither you hold Q for 3 seconds to bank what you carry, and the site takes 10% of the whole amount.

05

Withdraw on-chain

Withdrawals go to a wallet address you choose. They are irreversible.

Illustrative · no real money

Worked example

MoneySlither's published rule: you bank what your snake carries, less 10% of the whole amount, stake included. The runs below are illustrative, on a $1 arena entry.

Cash-out arithmetic in a $1 snake arena
RunCarried at the endFee (10%)You bankResult on a $1 stake
Cash out straight away$1.00$0.10$0.90-$0.10
Break-even$1.11$0.11$1.00$0.00
Good run$3.00$0.30$2.70+$1.70
Die carrying $3.00$3.00None$0.00-$1.00
Break-even carryAbout 1.11 times your stake
Fee charged onEvery cash-out, not only the profit

Money lost when a snake dies moves to other players, and the site takes 10% each time money leaves the arena. The arena as a whole therefore returns less than players put in, and a winning player is taking that money from weaker players, not from the site.

What counts as skill based gambling games

Skill based gambling covers any game played for money where the player's decisions and reactions, rather than a random draw, settle most results. The operator does not play against you: it runs the game, holds the stakes and keeps a fee, the same model as P2P poker. Formats sit along a spectrum:

  • Pure chance: dice duels and coinflips. No decision changes the odds, so the fee makes every player a loser on average.
  • Mixed: poker, backgammon, rummy and ludo, where cards or dice add luck to real decisions.
  • Mostly skill: chess, trivia for money and arcade games, where a stronger player wins far more often.

Arena games come in several shapes. Online Money Games (OMG), for example, runs 14 games in four formats: 1v1 duels, multiplayer rounds with one winner, a team match, and two drop-in arenas with no pot where you cash out what you carry.

The "skill" label is a marketing choice, so read the game list. Kokomo, a skill-game platform, lists Plinko and Higher Lower next to Tetris and 2048. PVPspinArena's slot duel is a score race, yet if either player hits a "bomb" the house keeps both stakes.

Slither for money: how snake arenas pay

Slither for money takes the browser snake game and gives every snake a cash value. You grow by collecting mass, and a rival dies when its head hits your body. MoneySlither sets out its rules in detail on its own pages:

  • Stakes: $1, $10 and $100 arenas, played in SOL. The site says most play is in the $1 arena.
  • Fee: 10% of each cash-out, stake included, so an untouched $1 banks as $0.90.
  • Account: Google sign-in creates a custodial Solana wallet; the site holds the key.
  • Disconnects: a dropped snake stops moving and can be eliminated by other players.
  • Operator: no company is named, and the same people run Online Money Games. On 27 October 2026 the homepage showed a maintenance notice.

DamnBruh runs a similar arena with $1, $5 and $20 lobbies funded in SOL, but publishes no terms, FAQ or privacy policy, and no fee. Its player counters showed zero when checked.

Skill matters in these arenas: cutting off rivals, baiting them into your body and judging when to leave all decide who banks money. So does the timing of the exit, because one collision wipes out a whole run, including the stake.

Duels, royales and team pots: how the payout shape changes the maths

Snake arenas are one of several payout shapes. OMG's game list shows the others, all with the same 10% fee:

  • 1v1 duels such as 8-ball and rock paper scissors: the winner takes the pot less 10%. Asynchronous score duels (Flappy, Cube Dash, Stack) refund both players on a tie.
  • Royales of up to 16 players, where the last one standing or the first over the line takes the pot.
  • Team pots in the car-soccer game Goal Rush, where the winning side splits the pot and 10% comes off each share.
  • Drop-in arenas with no pot, where you bank what you carry, as in the table above.

The bigger the field, the lower the win rate you need, and it always sits about 11% above a fair share. In a 1v1 at 10% you must win 55.6% of matches against a fair 50%. In an eight-player royale you need 13.9% against a fair 12.5%, and in a 16-player one 6.9% against 6.25%. Large fields also mean long losing streaks even for a strong player, so the bankroll needed to ride them out grows with the field.

Crypto skill games: custody, fees and who decides results

Crypto skill games add a layer of risk that card or app-store skill games do not have. OMG, which opened on 1 September 2026, shows the trade-offs clearly in its own terms:

  • Fee: 10% when money leaves a round. Two $10 stakes make a $20 pot and the winner receives $18; a refunded round returns the full stake.
  • Results: OMG's servers decide every result. Nothing is provably fair in the commit-reveal sense used by crypto dice and coinflip sites.
  • Custody: "We hold your money and we hold your key." Withdrawals are on-chain and irreversible, with a cap of 20 withdrawals and 50 SOL a day.
  • Checks: no company, no licence, no identity or location check and no self-exclusion tool. Bots appear only in free rooms, apart from money-neutral bots in one game.

Duel, which holds an Anjouan licence, runs a 1v1 Arena labelled beta with 8-ball, rock paper scissors, Tetris and Wordle, but publishes no Arena fee. Its lobby also listed games with offensive titles on 27 October 2026. Our P2P crypto casino guide covers custody and wallet risk in more depth.

Is skill based gambling legal?

A site calling its games skill-based does not decide the legal question. MoneySlither says as much: its "skill, not chance" description is "not a legal classification". The law of the player's country decides.

  • Great Britain: a game that involves both chance and skill, or chance that superlative skill could remove, is a game of chance (Gambling Act 2005, section 6). An unlicensed operator serving British players commits a criminal offence.
  • United States: states decide. Regulated-style platforms such as Skillz and Kokomo check location by GPS and block paid play state by state. OMG and MoneySlither check nothing, which leaves the legal risk with the player.
  • India: online games played for stakes are banned from 1 May 2026, whatever the mix of skill and chance, and crypto stakes count.

An offshore licence lets a company operate from its base; it does not make a game legal where you live. See P2P gambling laws by country and the UK guide.

Where to play skill based gambling games

No arena site is listed here as of October 2026. The snake and cash-out arenas we reviewed are run by unnamed operators without a licence, and the one licensed site with an arena, Duel, publishes no arena fee. For skill games from named companies, see the chess and trivia guides.

Also offering arena games, not listed here

  • Online Money Games: 14 skill games and two cash-out arenas, staked in SOL with a 10% fee. Terms say there is no company and no licence, and no identity or location check.
  • MoneySlither: Snake arena in SOL with a 10% cash-out fee, run by the same people as Online Money Games. No company or licence named; under maintenance on 27 October 2026.
  • DamnBruh: Snake arena with $1 to $20 lobbies in SOL. No terms, fee, company or licence published.
  • Duel (Arena): Anjouan-licensed crypto casino with a beta 1v1 Arena. No Arena fee published, and the lobby listed games with offensive titles on 27 October 2026.
  • Kokomo Games: 1v1 score-attack games such as Snake and Tetris, run by Koko Technology Ltd (British Virgin Islands). No platform fee published, and chance games such as Plinko sit in the same lobby.

Fees and country lists come from each site's own terms on the date above; check them again before you deposit.

Check these before you join

  • Whether the fee comes off the pot, the winnings or the whole cash-out
  • Who holds the wallet keys, and the daily withdrawal limits
  • Whether results are decided on the operator's servers or can be verified
  • What happens to your stake if your connection drops mid-round
  • Whether bots can enter paid rooms
  • A named company and a licence on a regulator's own register
  • Whether chance games are mixed into the skill lobby

Arena games questions

What is skill based gambling?

Playing a game for money where your decisions and reactions settle most results, against other players rather than the house. The operator earns a fee from pots or cash-outs. Chess, trivia, snake arenas and arcade duels are common examples.

Is skill based gambling legal?

It depends on where you live, not on the site's label. Britain counts any game mixing chance and skill as a game of chance, India bans online money games outright, and US states each decide.

Can you play slither for money?

Yes, on crypto sites such as MoneySlither and DamnBruh, which run snake arenas staked in SOL. Neither names a company or holds a licence, which is why neither is listed here.

Is MoneySlither legit?

It publishes clear rules: a 10% fee on every cash-out, stake included, and a custodial wallet the site controls. It also names no company, holds no licence and runs no location check, and it showed a maintenance notice on 27 October 2026.

What are crypto skill games?

Skill games staked in cryptocurrency, usually on browser sites that hold your coins in a custodial wallet. Results are decided by the operator's servers, and withdrawals are on-chain and irreversible.

Do skill based gambling games have a house edge?

Not in the casino sense: the site does not play against you. It takes a fee instead, and at 10% you need to carry about 1.11 times your stake out of an arena, or win about 56% of 1v1 duels, to break even.
